Listeners Scheme

Prisoners get frightened, angry, mixed up, anxious or sometimes just lonely.  At times life can seem not worth living.

UK Prisons have one of the highest suicide rates anywhere in Europe and quite a lot of work has been done to try to reduce the numbers but there is much more to be done.

Listeners are fellow inmates who have been trained by the Samaritans who run the help line on the outside.  Listeners can be called 24 hours a day to your cell just by pressing the button and they will listen to you in confidence.

Listeners will not offer you advice (officially that is) not will they represent you to a Prison Officer or Governor but they can support you in the direction you have decided.

As in all human contacts you will get on with on Listener better than another.  As a result one will help more than another.  Try them, they can be effective.
